Storms, Illinois

July 27: 104 mph winds and 3-inch hail across the south Chicago metro

A 104 mph gust was measured at Bult Field near Monee, among the strongest gusts ever measured in Illinois, with 80-105 mph straight-line winds through southern Cook and eastern Will counties. Hail reached 3.00 inches near Shorewood. For roofing and window crews, southern Cook and eastern Will counties are a full replacement corridor: decking, not just shingles.

HEAR single-family rebates closed statewide August 1

The Colorado Energy Office closed the HEAR single-family program for Region 2 on August 1, 2026; applications submitted after that date are denied. Region 1 (Front Range) had already closed April 28. If you quote heat pumps in Colorado, stop quoting HEAR money into new bids: a bid that assumed it is now a change-order fight.

The 25C tax credit is gone for 2026 installs

The IRS confirms the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (windows, doors, HVAC, insulation) does not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Any 2026 sales script still leaning on a 30% federal tax credit is quoting money the customer cannot claim.

August 11: morning derecho, 8 tornadoes, gusts to 97 mph

A derecho crossed northern Illinois during the morning commute. Measured gusts: 97 mph Sugar Grove, 96 mph Shorewood, 89 mph Batavia, 88 mph Plainfield. Two wind events above the 90 mph line inside 16 days over the same Will and Cook corridor: expect insurers to run date-of-loss questions on every claim there. Photo-document storm dates on every inspection.

August 20: 2-inch hail swath across central and southwest Minnesota

SPC storm reports show hail at 2.00 inches at Wabasso (Redwood County) and near Cuyuna (Crow Wing County), 1.75 inches at Hanley Falls and near Echo, and 1.00 to 1.25 inch reports across Cass, St. Louis, Itasca, Aitkin and Pope counties, including Brainerd. Everything at 1.75 inches and up is roof-claim hail regardless of roof age; the Brainerd Lakes reports sit in seasonal-home territory where owners are often absent.

August 14 and 15: back-to-back hail days, south Denver metro and southeast plains

August 14 put 1.00 inch hail on Englewood (Arapahoe County) with 62-64 mph gusts in Elbert County. August 15 followed with 1.75 inch hail at Foxfield (Arapahoe County) and a 64 mph gust at Lone Tree (Douglas County). Two consecutive hail days over the same Arapahoe and Douglas corridor: the south-metro suburbs are an active inspection zone, and multi-date impacts strengthen supplement positions on partial denials.
